Game Project "Bullet Wounds"
This is a game project that I am currently developing in Unreal Engine 5.1. Its a "Boomer Shooter" fps that is inspired by games such as Doom, Wolf3d and Duke Nukem 3d
My Goal
For this project I wanted to make a game that looks and feels like a classic boomer shooter but with the advantages of modern games.
Itch Page
Gameplay
Fast paced first person shooting a kin to classic boomer shooters like Doom, Wolf3d and Duke Nukem but with inspirations from Dark Souls and Alan Wake.
A "parrying" mechanic is inspired from Dark Souls and the flashlight is inspired by Alan Wake
Inspirations
- Doom 1 and 2
- Wolfenstein 3d
- Duke Nukem 3d
Length
I wanted this project to be about as long as the shareware version of Doom 1. So basically 40 minutes to an hour.
I wanted the levels to be short and memorable. About 5 minutes each. My reason for this was to try and feed the "just one more" mindset.
Flashlight
Whats special with a flashlight you may ask?
Whats special about the flashlight in this game is that it works like the flashlight in the first version of Doom 3. Which means that it cannot be used at the same time as a weapon.
What also makes it special is that it can make walls disappear, make invisible enemies appear and ofcourse illuminate the environment.
Boss
Every Boomer Shooter needs a boss fight so heres how I did it
The boss has three kind of attacks. Fire, projectiles and enemy spawn
The enemies spawn when the player has afflicted enough damage on the boss but the real interesting attacks are the fire and projectile attacks.
On easy difficulty these attacks are random which gives the player a little more breathing room between the attacks but the hard difficulty tracks the player and either applies a fire attack on the players position or a projectile attack which cover all positions. The normal difficulty is a mix of both.
The video above is on hard difficulty.
